| Staff running the company
are; Seiji Kondo, Shinobu Kondo, Yoshikiyo Oishi. They all met
when they were staying in Australia as a working holiday maker. |
|
Borderless-tokyo was established by
Seiji Kondo at April, 2001.At the moment, the company runs 11
houses in the tokyo area.
All the residents are energetic since there is an age limit
in Borderless-tokyo and people who are over 30yrs old can't
join in. (which means only 29yrs old or younger can stay).
Borderless-tokyo commences an event once
a month so that people can get to know other residents from
other guest houses. And at summer time, they attend a 12hour
endurance bicycle race at Tsukuba circit and also beach sandal
kicking world chanpionship at Chigasaki beach.Last year, they
became the champs!!
Seiji lived in a shared house
when he was staying in Australia, and from his experience, he
thought a lot more people should experience this type of lifestyle.
After coming back to Japan and recognizing that there is a tough
situation for foriegners to find a place to live here in Japan,
Seiji thought that if he can run guest houses, a lot of foriegn
people could be saved at the same time. Therefore, he established
Borderless-tokyo.
(You can also see Seiji's message from Borderless-tokyo's about
us webpage!)
Yoshikiyo, Oishi is the maneger
of the company who takes care of the 70 residents almost by
himself.
He became the menber of Borderless-tokyo staff from April,2004.Seiji
and Yoshikiyo met eachother when they were in Sydney as a working
holiday maker.and at that time Seiji was a working as a director
at a radio station and Yoshikiyo was the DJ working with him.
To our suprise, both Seiji and Yoshikiyo's wives were also good
friends with them when they were in Sydney. |

Is there a lot of foriegn people living
at your guest house? |
Actually not. the ratio between Japanese people
and foriegn people are 7 to3.
But there is a story behind this. Let's say I went to a foriegn country
to study and I find myself in a situation where all the share mates
that I'm surrounded by are from the same country. I'll probably feel
pretty depressed cause I would feel like what's the perpose of coming
to a foriegn county if I'm surrounded by Japanese?
I thinks the same can be said with foriegn people comming to Japan.
That's why our guest houses are organized, 70% Japanese, 30% foriengers.
Inthis way, foriegn people can feel the worthwhile stay in Japan,
living with Japanese and making good memories here in the guest house.

Tell us what's the good point about Borderless-tokyo
! |
Our main appeal point will definately be people INTERACTING
with oneanother.
The most different point compared to other guest house companys are
that we believe that the most important aspect of life in a guest
house is communion, whereas for other guest house company (not all
of them) tend to have this, "just fill the vacant rooms and that's
it" kind of mentality.
We want our residents to have a happy life in Tokyo so we're opening
up some partys for them. |
|

|
 |
 |
|
 |
| |
 |
What's your weak point? |
Since we're running this buisness with just 3people,
rarely, we get behind with the amount of jobs that we have. When that
happens, we might be inconvenient for the residents.

Tell us about some memorable episodes in
the past. |
OK, well, once there was a Korean girl who came
to stay at our guest house. And one day, when she was still new
to the house, the girl and a Japanese share mate was talking about
the acknowledgment difference of history between Japan and Korea.
At that time, the Korean girl couldn't dare accept the Japanese
side of the history. Half year later, it was time for her to go
back to Korea, and by that time, she had been helped by a lot of
kind Japanese people and the girl and her share mates became really
good friends. And when I met with her for the final time, she was
holding a Japanese history book and said to me,
"I had a bad image about Japanese people because of the past
history between Japan and Korea, but after I came here and spent
some time here in Japan, I decided to first of all, believe what
saw with my own eyes.
I don't want to become the type of person who criticises something
that I havn't even read, so I'm going to really have a good look
at this book."
When I heard that, I was really happy not becaese she was holding
a Japanese history book, but because she was going back to her mother
county after she became to like Japanese people.
Onthe other hand, there are a lot of
difficult, confusing stories too.
Actually, a lot of my past memories are full with confused stories.
This job is like creating human relationship and all the people
who's involved with this comes from different counties with different
backbones, customs, everything. So it's not a easy job at all.
However, although there are a lot of troubles, residents smile and
laughter gives me a reason to continue this tough job. When everybodys
having fun, that fun feeling directly affects my motivation.

Please tell us your ambition.! |
Nowadays, there are a lot of new guest house companies
appering but not all of them are good.
I've talked with some people who's working at other guest house companies
and they tell me that ther residents avarage staying length are about
1-2 months. And they say that's normal !
I've thought about what the problem
is with those guest houses and came to the conclusion, probably their
starting point compared to us is totaly different.
Our starting point was that we experienced
a really satisfied life by living in a shared house and thus we wanted
to make other people feel the same way as we did in the past.
It's really a shame that some guest
house companies reason of starting this buisness is to just make money.
That's why they don't really care about the residents feelings so
it turns out that most people moves out of the guest house after a
short period of time.
One of our motivation is to meke those people realize how vaiuable
the real guest house life is.
"Borderless-tokyo guest house" is one method and this "Guest
house&Apartment.com" is another method.
We hope every person who is really looking for a good guest house
will use this website.
Thank you! |
